Montenegro in 7 Days: What to See and Do
A complete travel itinerary with locations, routes and atmosphere
Montenegro is a country where the blue Adriatic meets majestic mountains, where ancient fortresses alternate with canyons and lakes, and where seaside resorts coexist with wild nature. In just seven days, you can explore different sides of the country — from luxury yachts in Porto Montenegro to thrilling adventures in Tara Canyon.
Day 1: Boka Bay and the Kotor Cable Car
Location: Kotor, Boka Bay
Price: 23–25 euros round trip
Duration: 2–3 hours
Website: kotorcablecar.com
This cable car connects the coast with the Lovćen plateau and offers stunning views of the bay, the old town’s rooftops, the sea, and cliffs. At the top, there's a panoramic restaurant and the Alpine Coaster ride.
📌Tip: Visit in the morning for fewer tourists and softer light for photos.
Day 2: Old Town Kotor and Hawaii Beach
Location: Kotor, Saint Mark Island
Transport: Boat, 10–15 minutes
Price: 5–10 euros
Walk through Old Town Kotor’s narrow streets, medieval walls, and hidden courtyards. Then take a boat to Hawaii Beach, a rocky island with crystal-clear water and total seclusion.
📌Tip: Bring water and snacks — there is little to no infrastructure, and that’s the charm.
Day 3: Porto Montenegro — the luxury marina
Location: Tivat
Best time to visit: Early evening
This is a mini-version of Monte Carlo, with luxury yachts, designer shops, restaurants and art galleries. Ideal for evening walks and a relaxed dinner.
📌Recommended restaurants: One or Murano.
Day 4: Blue Cave — a natural light show
Location: Lustica Peninsula
Tour price: From 25 euros
Duration: 2–3 hours
Sunlight reflects in the sea cave, turning the water into a glowing electric blue. Most tours include swimming, snorkeling and champagne.
📌Tip: Don’t forget your swimsuit and mask.
Day 5: Lovćen National Park and Njegoš Mausoleum
Location: One hour from Kotor
Entrance fee: About 5 euros
Climb 461 steps to reach the mausoleum of Petar II Njegoš, Montenegro’s national hero. The panoramic view at the top is breathtaking.
📌Tip: Stop by the village of Njeguši, known for its prosciutto and cheese.
Day 6: Tara Canyon — for adventure lovers
Location: Northern Montenegro
From Podgorica: 2.5–3 hours
Zipline: From 20 euros
Rafting: 40–60 euros with transfer and lunch
This is one of Europe’s deepest canyons. Ziplining and rafting are popular here, and the views are stunning.
📌Tip: Wear comfortable shoes and bring warm clothes and water — it’s cooler in the north.
Day 7: Free day — Budva, beaches, and the old town
Location: Budva, Mogren or Jaz Beach
Relax, explore Budva’s charming old town, visit monasteries, buy souvenirs and enjoy the beach.
Recommended restaurants: Jadran or Kužina.
Montenegro is compact yet very diverse. Renting a car allows you to explore the sea, mountains, and canyons all in one week. Each day feels like a different country.
